The 2009 Lincoln MKX is a midsize luxury crossover SUV that seats up to five passengers across two rows. It shares its mechanical platform and core structure with the Ford Edge, but is elevated by a distinct Lincoln exterior style, a quieter cabin, and a higher level of premium standard equipment.

First introduced for 2007, Lincoln expanded the vehicle's standard luxury layout for the 2009 model-year by making a power liftgate and a universal garage door opener standard on all models. Other major standard features include perforated leather seating with heated and cooled front seats, Ford SYNC voice-activated infotainment system with Bluetooth streaming and USB connectivity, dual-zone automatic climate control, reverse parking sensors, and 17-inch aluminum wheels.

The Limited Edition, Elite, and Ultimate packages are equipped, with features added by the Limited Edition package including unique "Limited Edition" side badging, distinctive etched Lincoln Stars inside the headlamp lenses, and large 20-inch chrome-clad aluminum wheels on the exterior. It also upgrades the cabin with premium leather-trimmed seats and matching wood inserts. Depending on the upholstery choice, it paired Charcoal Black Leather with Figured Maple Wood, or Medium Light Stone Leather with dark Ebony Wood.

The Ultimate Package builds out the style, lighting, and everyday utility of the base model, replacing standard leather with premium leather-trimmed seats featuring contrast piping and an embroidered Lincoln Star on the front headrests, Adaptive Headlamps that pivot in the direction of the steering wheel to illuminate dark curves, and integrates Ambient Lighting, an under-floor Cargo Management System, and EasyFold™ remote rear seatback releases located in the trunk.

The Elite Package acts as the ultimate technology and entertainment bundle. Rather than unique trim pieces, it packages together the vehicle’s flagship standalone options, including the Panoramic Vista Roof, a voice-activated navigation system providing real-time maps and a 10 GB internal digital jukebox for music storage, and a THX II Certified 14-speaker, 600-watt cinema-style surround sound system with a dedicated 8-inch subwoofer optimized specifically for the MKX’s cabin acoustics.

The 2009 model was highly regarded for safety during its era, earning a Top Safety Pick designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and top 5-star ratings in several federal government front and side crash tests.

Power is derived from a 3.5-liter V6 engine producing 266 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque, and routed to the front wheels via a 6-speed automatic transmission.
