The 2010 BMW X5 M represents a significant milestone in the history of BMW's legendary M division, marking the introduction of its first high-performance all-wheel-drive Sports Activity Vehicle alongside the X6 M. Based on the second-generation E70 X5 platform, the X5 M combines the practicality and refinement of a midsize luxury SUV with the engineering, performance, and driving dynamics traditionally reserved for BMW's dedicated M sports cars. This particular example is exceptionally well-optioned, featuring a striking Melbourne Red Metallic exterior over Bamboo Beige Extended Merino Leather upholstery, with an original MSRP of approximately $93,000. At the heart of the X5 M is BMW's S63 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8, producing 555 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque. Featuring a reverse-flow cylinder head design with twin turbochargers positioned within the engine's V, the S63 delivers exceptional throttle response and a broad powerband. Power is routed through a reinforced 6-speed M Sport automatic transmission with steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters, enabling the X5 M to accelerate from 0–60 mph in just 4.5 seconds according to BMW's original testing, with an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph. These figures placed the X5 M among the fastest production SUVs of its era, delivering performance comparable to many dedicated sports cars. 

To complement its extraordinary power, BMW M engineers developed a specialized chassis and drivetrain designed to deliver precise handling despite the vehicle's substantial size and weight. The M-tuned xDrive all-wheel-drive system features a rear-biased torque distribution strategy, working in conjunction with Dynamic Performance Control to actively distribute torque between the rear wheels during cornering. This sophisticated system improves traction, stability, and cornering response while preserving the engaging driving characteristics associated with BMW M vehicles. Additional performance hardware includes Electronic Damping Control (EDC), Active Roll Stabilization to minimize body lean, and a self-leveling rear air suspension. Braking performance is provided by substantial ventilated disc brakes measuring 15.6 inches in front and 15.2 inches at the rear. 

Visually, the X5 M distinguishes itself from the standard X5 through an aggressive collection of functional M-specific styling enhancements. Enlarged front air intakes provide additional cooling for the high-output powertrain, while widened wheel arches, aerodynamic bodywork, distinctive side vents, and four polished exhaust outlets emphasize its performance-oriented character. This example is finished in Melbourne Red Metallic and rides on staggered 20-inch Double Spoke Style 299 M alloy wheels wrapped in Pirelli performance tires. 

Inside, this example features premium Bamboo Beige Extended Merino Leather upholstery, M-specific sport seating, a leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel with signature M-colored stitching, and distinctive M instrumentation. An extensive selection of luxury amenities includes heated front and rear seats, a heated steering wheel, four-zone automatic climate control, soft-close doors, and a panoramic glass sunroof.
